An automated external defibrillator (AED) can be the difference between life and death. There are over 30,000 cardiac arrests that take place out of hospital in the UK, per year — these take place in homes, on the street and elsewhere in the community. According to the NHS, a cardiac arrest is, therefore, the "ultimate medical emergency" and is to be dealt with urgently.
