Primary Care Training Centre

The Primary Care Training Centre has been training health care professionals and non-clinical staff for over twenty years. During that time, many thousands of students have successfully completed one of our courses or study days.

The PCTC runs distance learning courses for clinical staff, accredited by Teesside University, in Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, Women's Health, Respiratory Disease and Minor Illness and Injuries. We also have a wide range of study and update days.

In 2003 we launched our first course for Health Care Assistants. Over one thousand students have completed our Primary Health Care Assistant module, and many more have attended one of our wide range of study days for Health Care Assistants.

Recognising the increasing importance of the Health Care Assistant in primary care today, in 2011 we embarked on possibly our most ambitious project to date, with the announcement of our Certificate of Higher Education: Primary Care, a 120 credit level 4 university qualification for Health Care Assistants. Health Care Assistants can pick from a suite of modules the ones that best suit both them and their practice, and build up enough credits to obtain this formal university qualification. A combination of workshop days, distance learning and on-the-job training under the supervision of a registered nurse mentor means that the Health Care Assistant really can study while they work, and gain credit for it. Several of the students who have completed the Cert HE have gone on to start nurse training.

Workshop sessions are delivered by our own team of tutors, all of whom actually work in Primary Care.

Workshops and our range of study days run throughout the year at Crow Trees. Subject to minimum numbers, we can deliver any of our courses or study days in your area.
