Alison Ackew

West Yorkshire and Harrogate Excellence Centre Project Manager

With over 35 years experience in the NHS, the independent healthcare sector, educational and project related roles, both operational and strategic, Alison has a background of working collaboratively with local and national stakeholders to build partnership working approaches and working to develop and set up innovative training and apprenticeship programmes.

In recent years Alison has worked with educationalists and healthcare employers to support workforce development in the healthcare sector particularly in relation to the implementation of new roles, apprenticeships and the introduction of new training pathways.

Mark Russo

Organisational Learning Trainer

Mark has worked for Leeds Teaching Hospitals in the role of OL trainer since October 2017. Mark’s core role involves training the estates and facilities staff within Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Mark’s background is working clinically, predominately within mental health services. He has a passion for patient centred care, which lead him into working with clinical health support worker apprentices before taking on this role within organisational learning.

Mark has a passion for training within healthcare; a key success in his previous role in the independent sector was achieving the highest score within his company when quality checked for training- this was something that only Mark had achieved within the company nationwide. Mark is looking forward to developing within this role and ensuring that a high quality of training is delivered and that people are getting value out of their training sessions.

Paul Thorp

Training Educator

Paul has worked in or around facilities for the last 20 years, he offers a lot of knowledge regarding food management systems. He was formerly a senior Manager within Sodexho. He has now moved into the NHS as a training educator, developing and delivering all modules of priority and mandatory training.

Pauls speciality however, is the food safety qualification. He teaches these subjects up to and including levels 1, 2, and 3. Paul is passionate about people's development, and is really excited for what the future will hold. The opportunities that may be presented and the delivery of innovative training packages throughout the Yorkshire and Harrogate region.

Ash O'Hara

Associate Director

Ash is a Registered Nurse with over 20 years clinical experience at LTHT. She moved into a Corporate role in 2013 as part of LTHT’s Nursing & Midwifery Workforce and Education Team. There, she used her operational knowledge to support with recruitment to the nursing workforce. She also supported the implementation of acuity data collection which is used to in the development of robust workforce plans.

With the workforce landscape continuing to evolve Ash moved into Organisational Learning and has been involved from the first application to host an National Skills Academy for Health Excellence Centre and continues to use her role to shape the recruitment, training and development opportunities for support staff across the West Yorkshire & Harrogate region.

Karen Vella

Deputy Director of HR (Organisational Learning)

Karen has been in a role leading education, training and development in the NHS for the past 18 years.Currently working as Head of Education, Learning and Organisational Development at Leeds Teaching Hospitals with a special interest in developing staff in bands 1-4.

Karen is a well respected Organisational Development professional within the Yorkshire and Humber region, specialising in Leadership, Governance and Psychometrics instruments.

Previously worked for Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS, and the Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Foundation Trust.

She has a BSc in Information Systems for Business, MSc in Leadership and Change Management.

In her spare time Karen is an avid baker and Dog walker.

Tracy Harding

Business Manager

Tracy has been within an education, learning and development business role for over 25 years. Currently working as Business Manager within Organisational Learning, Leeds Teaching Hospitals.

Tracy has a vast knowledge and experience sourcing high quality training and development to supporting staff, in particular those in support staff roles access the most appropriate development for them.

Paula Gladwell

Senior Organisational Learning Facilitator

Paula is a Senior Organisational Learning Facilitator and has worked for Leeds Teaching Hospitals since September 2016. Paula’s core role involves Organisational Development(OD), Leadership and Management Development and an interest in developing the offer for the Health & Wellbeing training of the Trust staff. Paula’s background is working in learning and development, having previously been employed for 16 years in the private sector. She has a passion for supporting and developing the workforce, working collaboratively to empower and enable others to reach their potential.

Paula is an experienced facilitator, qualified and practicing Coach and an experienced Insights Practitioner. She has recently successfully passed her CMI Level 5 in Professional Consulting.

Learning Curve Group

Learning Curve is a provider that offers a wide range of courses many that are fully funded and suitable for employees, staff and volunteers working in the health and social care sector.

A number of the courses available have flexible delivery options and can be accessed via distance learning i.e. workbooks and online with tutor support.
